SCAM ALERT

On behalf of Chief Wallace Trott, Wentworth PD and Grafton County Sheriff Jillian Myers, please be vigiliant!

Grafton County, NH — The Grafton County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a recent phone scam in which individuals posing as law enforcement officers attempt to defraud residents.

Scammers are calling individuals and claiming to be officers or deputies from our department—or other local, state, or federal law enforcement agencies. They may use official-sounding names and caller ID spoofing to make the call appear legitimate. In many cases, they falsely inform the victim that they have missed jury duty, have an outstanding warrant, or owe fines, and demand immediate payment to avoid arrest.

Important facts to know:

  • Law enforcement will NEVER ask for payment over the phone.
  • We will NOT ask for payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or mobile payment apps.
  • If you receive such a call, do not provide personal or financial information.
  • Hang up immediately and contact your local police department directly to verify any claims.

These scammers use fear and urgency to pressure people into giving up money or sensitive information. We urge everyone to be cautious and to help spread the word—especially to elderly friends and family members who may be more vulnerable to this type of fraud.

If you believe you have been targeted or have already provided personal information or money to a scammer, please report the incident to your local police department.

Stay vigilant and share this message to help prevent further victims.

Respectfully,

Sheriff Jillian Myers
